The studio provided Chagall with some of his most beautiful themes especially in the later years of his life. In the patterns of shape and colour, and in the play of the translucent light, he found images through which he could express to the full the visual poetry and the sense of optimism and joie de vivre which inspired his post-war oeuvre.
