Description / Expertise

John Michael Wright was one of the most successful English
artists of the 17th century. Along with earlier contemporaries
such as William Dobson, he was one of only a handful of native
painters to find favour amongst the top echelons of society.
This picture, previously unknown, is one of his finest female
portraits, and a major addition to his oeuvre.
