Description / Expertise
This hitherto unpublished portrait shows Sir Richard Arkwright,
the uneducated former barber who became one of the
pioneers of the industrial revolution. It is
the earliest likeness of him, and was considered by his children
to be the best. It is recorded in Joseph Wright’s account book
as costing £26 5s.
