Description / ExpertiseThe titles of Fonseca’s abstract paintings and drawings are divided into two groups. They indicate where he executed a particular work - either in Pietrasanta, on the Tuscan coast, or at his Fifth Street studio in Manhatten. Like Paul Klee, he is both a visual artist and a gifted musician. He admires Bach, Brahms and Schoenberg and can often be heard playing the piano in a room next to his studio. This gouache illustrates his awareness of the stylistic similarities between the compositional structure of his drawings (and paintings) and the form of a musical score. |
