Description / Expertise

The broad cup of the type B shows a youthful horseman in a tondo framed by a meander. The rider wears a chlamys and has pushed his petasus, a wide-brimmed travelling hat, back over his shoulder.
The horse prances proudly, its swishing tail and raised legs fitting beautifully into the circle of the tondo. The exterior of the cup depicts
Dionysian scenes with a maenad standing on one side and seated on
the other. They both hold a thyrsos staff and are flanked by dancing
satyrs, three of whom are clearly in a state of sexual arousal.
