Description / Expertise

This key early work, also known as The Struggle, epitomizes Reid Dick’s roots in the New Sculpture movement and is clearly influenced by Leighton’s époque-making work, An Athlete wrestling with a Python, of some 40 years earlier.
A bronze of Femina Victrix, dated 1909, is known, and a plaster was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1913.
