Description / Expertise

The figure stands in contraposto, the weight resting on the right leg. The musculature of the slender body is soft and boyish and also carefully rendered on the back. The right arm was placed on the head in a posture of rest. The left arm was presumably angled and rested on a support, traces of which are preserved at the left leg. Strands of hair lie on the shoulders.
The model followed was a sculpture attributed to Praxiteles that was located in the sanctuary of Apollo Lykeios (Lykeion) in Athens.
