Description / ExpertiseOn both sides Hercules is represented fighting the Nemean Lion. He strangles the lion with his left arm and grasps its upper jaw with his right hand. The scene is commented on by a woman in peplos with a lance and a hoplite in heavy armour. The scenes are almost identical, the main differences being the signs on the shields of the warriors, one of which is decorated by a cock, the other by a large eye. |
