Description / Expertise

An attractive George III period mellowed mahogany cylinder bureau cabinet in fine original condition.
This finely detailed bureau cabinet has mellowed beautifully, its mahogany veneers contrasted with satinwood banding on the outside while within, its satinwood drawers are edged with kingwood. The comparatively unusual cylinder fall is linked in action to the retracting writing surface.
The glazing pattern of the cabinet doors is taken from The Cabinet-Maker’s London Book of Prices (1788), plate 7, by Thomas Shearer.
